When you hear whiny liberals like Elizabeth Warren complain about big money influence in politics, here’s a two-word counter argument: George Soros. For anyone living under a rock Soros is a liberal billionaire who since the 1990’s has spendt his money almost exclusively on destroying America and electing far-left officials.
Soros made his fortune through currency speculation. He is the silent partner in a vast array of liberal causes ranging from electing left-wing prosecutors who promise to stop prosecuting criminals to paying for radical rent-a-crowd demonstrators who yell and wear funny pink hats.
Russia banned his foundation, deeming it a state security threat and the Hungarian government has passed a law called “Stop Soros,” if that is any kind of indication of the type of man Soros is.
Likewise, Soros has been out to get President Trump since the 2016 election. He squandered $20 million on Hillary Clinton and other Democrats in that effort and still couldn’t prevent Hillary Clinton’s loss and a Republican takeover of the House and Senate.
Later, Soros’s money also helped fund the whistleblower complaint that launched the failed impeachment that once again shot the Democrats down in flames.
Apparently undaunted—and possibly a slow learner—the billionaire Democrat megadonor has pumped twice the 2016 cash infusion into a labyrinth of liberal PACs–$40,465,002.62 to be precise.
Soros lords over a vast number of big-spending PACs this election year, and he is committed to getting President Trump out of office. Those election PACs use the money for attack ad campaigns in swing states targeting moderate voters who supported President Trump in 2016.
Soros has directly contributed $5.5 million of his ill-gotten fortune to his own super PAC. The remaining $35 million comes from Soros’s Fund for Policy Reform. That fund is a registered nonprofit in Soros’s Open Society Foundations network, which shows $750 million in its bank account on its recent tax forms.
So, all that fuzzy, albeit legal, tax accounting and manipulation keeps Soros pretty much anonymous and from heading the list of the biggest donors lists for left-wing PACs. Soros Democracy PAC expenditures include:
- $7 million to the Senate Majority PAC, closely tied to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer
- $5 million to the pro-Biden PAC Priorities USA Action
- $2.5 million to left-wing Win Justice coalition
Soros money also benefits Democrat state campaigns as well as a PACs focused on winning elections for far-left prosecutors. He also wrote personal checks in the hundreds of thousands of dollars to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s campaign.
While many Democrat candidates decry big money in politics, they actually benefit from the Soros cash cow. All that right-wing dark money, they complain, is infecting our Democracy with special interest politics. Despite that hypocritical rhetoric, one Republican operative observed, “George Soros’ unprecedented spending further highlights just how dependent Democrats are on contributions from billionaires.”
Other big-bucks liberal donors include Tom Steyer, the liberal San Francisco billionaire who ran for the Democrat nomination but never got more than 1% of the vote. He has ponied up a whopping $40,655,423 to Democrats.
On the top 100 list of donors for the 2020 election cycle, Soros ranks just 15th because he launders his contributions through his non-profits. Democrats so far have raised $278,467,231 from their rich liberal donors. Republicans have raised nearly $63 million less.
George Soros is the extreme, classic case of liberal guilt. He donates millions to people who hate the rich, but not enough to refuse his handouts. At 89 years, he probably won’t outlive a fortune that earns enough interest to be self-sustaining. The best we can hope for is that after doubling down on his 2016 bad election bet, he’ll just be throwing good money after bad.
